UNWANTED MESSAGES: YOU CAN GET YOUR TELCO TO PAY N5MILLION FINE

Finally, we can teach this Telco's a lesson.

NCC says it has commenced the enforcement of the Do Not Disturb (DND) code to enforce mobile network operators to stop sending unsolicited messages to their subscribers.

Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Umar Dambatta said the move became imperative and  N5 million fine has been stipulated for any breach of the directive by the regulator. In his word's, "If a consumer lodges complaint to NCC that a MNO send unsolicited text messages and the complaint from the consumer get to us, we will ensure that credit deducted from the consumers for this unsolicited text messages is returned to the consumer and will also invoke provision of the fine on the MNO which is N5 million."

Here's how you can inform NCC about any defaulting Telco:

1. Calling the NCC Contact Centre toll-free number with a valid complaint Ticket number from the Service Provider on 0800-CALL NCC (0-800-2255 622).
2. Filling the online complaint form on the NCC web portal www.ncc.gov.ng.

Thanks to NCC for this new development.
