How to survive 2017 as an Employee

2016 was a helluva year for almost everyone.

From the unstable economy to Buhari's new anthem RECESSION, or the nose dive the Dollar went against the Naira, everyone was scared. We all were. Companies were laying off, jobs were no longer secure. Most companies were trying to cost operational costs and looking for way to make sales during the recession. If you were not uptight in your game, your job would leave you sooner than you expected. They were no longer recruiting to fill in job roles, but were looking for young, innovative minds to take them from where they were to the promised land.

This year isn't different. The holidays and the partying has ended. Two weeks into 2017 and its time to get your game right. Now isn't the time to start wandering if you would still be employed by the end of the next quarter. Now is the time to seat down, think and brainstorm on creative ways for your organisation to drive innovation and sales.

Creativity goes hand in hand with innovation. And there is no innovation without creativity. While creativity is the ability to produce new and unique ideas, innovation is the implementation of that creativity - that's the introduction of a new idea, solution, process, or product. Creativity is the driving force behind innovation. Its doing things from different angles while being free of restrictions or rules.

People are so accustomed to doing things the way that "it has always been done", that they fail to try out new things. They are so restricted to thinking like there was a box, rather than thinking like there was no box and letting their imagination go wild. They are so comfortable with being busy with work, instead of being strategic.

Stimulate creativity and explore completely new and unknown ideas that can lead to increasing productivity of the organisation. Think like there is no box, research and explore new areas for innovative ideas that can deliver cost-effective business solutions. It doesn't matter if you are talking about developing a new strategy or an innovative way to stay ahead of the competition and drive sales. Have a competitive edge above your other colleagues. Give them reasons to keep you, rather than lay your off as an expense.

Don't forget your boss is trying to cut expenses, so don't end up being one. Be a value adder. Network, Meet people, research, do your homework. Don't be scared, be confident.

Make 2017 count!!!
