DIY Tumeric, Honey and Milk Face mask

Hi Loves,

I have been AWOL for so long I literally forgot I had a blog, till it occurred to me I had been a lazy ass procrastinator. Life has been God, there might be a recession, but I keep telling people if you let the economic situation get you, and you think negative, you wouldn't see an opportunity where one exists. There are opportunities everywhere, you have got to ask God for the wisdom to show you one, and direct you on what to do.

For a while now, I have been battling with breakouts, skin rashes, dark spots and acne. Most times I wake up in the morning and find a new breakout that appeared on my face overnight. A friend suggested I try Turmeric. I was sceptical about it. I a not a fan of trying natural things on my face. I tried Lime as a facial cleanser and it felt like my face was on fire, same thing with rosewater. I decided to give it a go. I use Turmeric to cook, I love the taste my meal has after cooking, even though it gives it that yellow colour. I prefer using it to curry.

The tumeric i used is produced by AACE FOODS. They make varieties of spices from black pepper, suya spice, pepper soup, Ginger & Garlic (my loves), yellow pepper, jollof rice etc. Name it, and they have it. They can be found in any supermarket close to you. Talk about supporting the Made IN Nigeria movement.

Also known as the golden spice of life, turmeric is an all-natural skincare ingredient that can be applied topically for glowing skin! Surprisingly, this excellent spice that we use for cooking curries can be used as a skin-brightening face mask. It has extraordinary anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties, which make it an excellent face mask ingredient. It is very effective against acne since it contains strong antibacterial properties, and it can also reduce the visibility of acne scars.

Nutrients in Tumeric and Their Benefits for Skin

Vitamin C: Builds up collagen and maintains skin tautness and elasticity.

Calcium: Heals dry, withered skin. It composes the uppermost layer of skin. .

Vitamin B6: Keeps skin moisturized and healthy and is necessary for new skin cell formation.

Potassium: Mosturizes and Hydrates dry skin cells

Magnesium:Slows down the aging process of skin, and gives you that youthful radiant skin.

Tumeric, Honey and Milk Face Mask

I used tumeric, honey and milk face mask and a little bit of lemon. This ingredients are readily available and are easy to get. Use this amazing turmeric face mask once a week to give yourself a royal beauty treatment. Raw milk is great for softening rough skin and hydrating dry skin. Honey is a natural humectant that will moisturize and hydrate skin. This amazing combo will boost your skin cells and give them the gentle nourishing treatment they deserve.

Here's in-depth information showing the benefits of these ingredients for skin:

Milk: Gently exfoliates dead cells and shrinks large pores. Smooths out rough skin, softens skin and nourishes it with vitamins and minerals. It fights free radical activity such as oxidative stress that leads to premature ageing.

Honey (My all time favourite): Contains strong antibacterial and antiseptic properties that kill off acne-causing bacteria.Hydrates, nourishes, and lubricates skin.  Helps even out skin discolorations, age spots, acne scars and dark spots on skin. Gently cleanses and moisturizes skin of all types. Lightens the skin.

Lemon:Contains antibacterial properties that kill off bacteria responsible for acne, pimples, and white heads.Deep-cleanses clogged pores of excess sebum, bacteria, pollution, and dirt.Tightens large pores as a natural astringent and tones oily skin.

Ingredients:

1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions:

1.    Remove all traces of makeup with baby wipes.
2.    Gently wash your face with warm water to open up pores and allow the nutrients to sink in. Pat          your face dry before using this mask.
3.    Mix the above ingredients thoroughly in a small bowl.
4.    Using clean fingertips, slather a thin amount of the turmeric face mask onto your face. Sit for              five to 10 minutes or until the face mask dries up completely.
5.    Rinse off with cool water and a mild facial cleanser or an all-natural homemade honey facial                cleanser.

Top Tips:

Turmeric might stain your face, I simply use a sugar face scrub, and it will disappear completely, leaving a bright and exfoliated face. If you do not have a sugar face scrub, you could use a dark coloured face wash cloth to scrub it off.

Turmeric stained my nails as I applied it with my fingers. To remove fingernail turmeric stains, use a nail brush and gently brush with lemon juice. After two minutes, voilĂ , my nails were be back to normal again, if not shinier! You can use disposable gloves when applying the mask if you really don't have time to use a nail brush and lemon juice. Or better yet, get a designated face brush for applying masks!

I used no more than 1/2 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice, especially after my experience with Lemon.

I used raw honey for best results. Processed honey often contains artificial ingredients that may irritate the skin.

To prevent it dripping all over my floor I stood over my bathroom sink while applying the face mask.

Don’t use it right before a big meeting or date. You’ll want to do a gentle cleansing after the treatment and again after a few hours to fully remove the yellow tint from your skin. Don’t worry, it isn’t long-lasting. This is a great mask to use on a lazy weekend day when you don’t have anywhere to be for a few hours.

It isn't recommended you use this on children.

I will be back with a blog-post on how to make  a sugar face scrub. I will be open to natural face moisturisers for the face. Any suggestions will be welcome in the comment box.

Luv

Vee.
